Ever since UK Netflix took The Vampire Diaries off their streaming service, I feel like me and my boyfriend have spent hours scrolling through Netflix looking for something else to fill the void. We recently came across a Netflix original cartoon series called Hilda and considering we couldn’t find anything else to watch, we gave it a try.

Plot
The plot of the 2 season animation follows a young girl called Hilda, who grew up in the wilderness, move into the city of Trolberg with her Mum Johanna and pet Deerfox Twig. Through the 26 episodes across the first and second season Hilda encounters many different types of beasts and spirits. She goes on adventures with her fellow sparrow scouts David and Frida accompanied by her companion elf Alfur and Tontu the creature that lives in the nowhere space in her house. Along the way we meet new creatures like trolls, forest giants, Woff’s and Marra’s.
Background
Originally released in 2018, the second season debuted mid December of 2020 and has racked in 6 awards and seems to have a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The actual series is based off a graphic novel series by Luke Pearson and I think they’ve adapted it for Netflix so well!

My thoughts
I actually love this series so much. I shamefully am the type of person to just rewatch the same old movies and seasons for the sake of it (hence why I made my boyfriend watch The Vampire Diaries.. shame we didn’t get to finish it). But having given this a go, I loved it from the first episode. It’s something I like to call ‘light-watching’ you don’t need to concentrate on it to find hidden meanings or a hidden plot, it’s just nice and easy to watch. The actual style of the animation is super cute and the music suits the series so well. Whilst most episodes are entertaining to watch, admittedly there were one or two where I may have shed a tear…
Have you ever watched Hilda before? Let me know what you think of it, and if not it definitely worth adding to your list on Netflix if you’re struggling for something to watch!

Don’t forget my social media;
I’m heartbroken TVD has been taken away from me – I’ve only watched it through about 10 times 😆 Hilda definitely looks interesting and now I’m back off work I think I’ll give it a go 🙂

I am guilty of endless scrolling too so I am always on the lookout for new recommendations! I love your review of this show and will check it out.
I have recently been watching Bridgerton, Grace and Frankie, Schitt’s Creek, and The Great British Baking Show. I am in the US, though, so your options may be vastly different.
